A new hype: snail gel

29 January 2019

Snail gel is hot in the beauty world today! Those who dare to, will go for a facial treatment where snails crawl over their faces. We, however, take a different approach. Snail gel is the latest product on the skin improvement market. It is packed with allantoin, antioxidants, proteins, glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid. Each of these ingredients has a specific function.

Snail gel has been used for centuries to repair skin. The ancient Greeks put snail slime on their bodies to heal small wounds. Today there are genuine snail farms in Chile where the snails crawl over glass plates and the snail slime is collected. This residue is processed into our snail gel.

Allantoin is a substance that stimulates the formation of new skin cells, but it also exfoliates the skin and hydrates the extracellular matrix. These three properties allow your skin to be repaired. Antioxidants repair tissue damage, and proteins hydrate and soothe the skin. Finally, collagen is responsible for the firmness of your skin.

In other words, snail gel is your ideal ally in the fight against acne, LINK because it balances your sebum production which means fewer pimples and less oily skin. It also soothes redness and heals inflammation. It is a perfect anti-ageing product LINK because it reduces the depth of existing wrinkles and makes your skin look younger and more vibrant.

Thermae Boetfort and Thermae Grimbergen sell two products containing snail slime: a snail mask (50 ml – € 19.95) and snail gel (50 ml – € 33.75). The mask can be used weekly just before you put on your day cream. The gel can be used as a day cream.
