What is BodyPump Heavy?

BodyPump Heavy is a full-body strength workout that combines traditional strength exercises with the energy and guidance of a group class. You’ll train with a barbell and weights, performing a range of fundamental strength-training exercises.

The big difference?

The pace is slower, there’s more recovery time between sets and you’ll perform fewer repetitions. This gives you more time to focus on your technique while allowing you to work with heavier weights. The result is an increased focus on building strength and muscle.

BodyPump vs. BodyPump Heavy

If you’re familiar with our classic BodyPump classes, you’ll know that they involve a high number of repetitions. Les Mills describes BodyPump as a workout focused on strength endurance, using what is known as the Rep Effect.

With BodyPump Heavy, the emphasis is different. Movements are performed at a slower pace and you’ll have more time to recover between sets. This allows you to lift heavier while focusing on proper technique and developing your strength. BodyPump Heavy therefore doesn’t replace classic BodyPump, but is a great addition to it.

Do you need strength training experience?

No. According to Les Mills, BodyPump Heavy is suitable for different fitness levels. Beginners can start with lighter weights and work on their technique at their own pace. If you already have strength training experience, the class gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself further and gradually increase the weight.

Our instructors will guide you through the exercises and help you master the correct technique. You also decide how much weight you want to use.

When can you join BodyPump Heavy?

Starting September 28, BodyPump Heavy will be on our group class schedule twice a week:

Monday: 18:45 – 19:45
Wednesday: 17:45 – 18:45
