The summer is the perfect season to enjoy a slower pace of life, relax and fully recharge. A great way to do so? A sauna visit! Yes, it may be hot outside, but that doesn’t reduce the health benefits of a sauna session at all. Sauna bathing helps relax your muscles, calms your mind and after your session, the cooldown on our terrace or in the plunge pool will be extra refreshing.

Want to make the most of your summer wellness day? A few simple rules of conduct will help maintain a peaceful wellness space and ensure respectful behaviour towards fellow guests and staff. We list our main sauna etiquette rules below.

Start with a shower

Whether you have just arrived at our centre after being stuck in a traffic jam or have already enjoyed an active summer day, always start your sauna visit with a short shower. Not only for hygiene reasons, but also to prepare your skin: it opens up your pores, allowing you to sweat more efficiently in the sauna. Also, don’t forget to have another shower after every toilet visit and sauna session.

Dry your body properly

It’s important to dry your body properly before going in the sauna. Dry skin helps you sweat faster and it also helps maintain a constant temperature in the cabin, keeping things comfortable for everyone. Also, it prevents water from your skin dripping onto the wood. Small effort, big reward!

Use a big towel

When sitting in the sauna, always place your towel under your whole body, from head to toe! This ensures that the wood stays clean so guests using the sauna after you get to enjoy a hygienic, pleasant experience too. Tip: bring an extra towel because it’s nice to be able to dry yourself at the end of the day with a fresh towel before getting dressed.

Absolute silence equals real relaxation

The sauna is all about relaxation. A peaceful, quiet environment is a big part of this. So, please don’t talk loudly and save your cosy catchup chats for outside or in the bar. In the sauna cabin itself, please be silent or whisper, so that everyone gets to enjoy a totally tranquil experience. Especially on summer days when things are busier, this serene atmosphere is extra appreciated.

Don’t forget your spa slippers

At our thermal baths, spa slippers are compulsory. They help keep your feet clean, protect them from the hot floors and reduce your risk of slipping. Obviously, you don’t wear them in the sauna itself, just leave them outside in a tidy fashion so that the cabin stays uncluttered and hygienic. Safe and comfortable, in other words!

Swimwear or no swimwear?

At Thermae Boetfort, we have a swimwear and a nude area. Your entry ticket gives you access to both areas as long as you respect the right dress code. In the swimwear area, you will need to wear the appropriate swimwear; in the nude area, you enjoy your sauna visit naked.
What can you wear? Men: short, close-fitting swim briefs or trunks. Women: a close-fitting swimsuit or bikini. Not allowed? Loose shorts, strings, swim dresses or burkinis.

Stay well-hydrated

When you sweat, your body loses a lot of fluids. So, make sure to regularly drink some water or another hydrating drink in between sauna sessions. That’s even more important on hot summer days! Also, take enough breaks in the shade or any other cool spot outside.

Relax, enjoy your wellness and show respect

A sauna day is a day of rest, wellness enjoyment and self-care. By following our house rules, you help us make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. No stress, we don’t expect perfection, just treat your fellow guests, our staff and our wellness space with basic respect.
Obviously, inappropriate sexual behaviour is not allowed at our wellness resort. Our Aufguss masters keep an eye on things and make sure that everything runs smoothly and respectfully. They will confront guests if need be and you can, of course, also let them know if you see something untoward.
Good to know: during the summer months, our public baths are open every day, including public holidays. Visit us from Sunday to Thursday from 10:30 to 23:00 and even until midnight on Saturdays and Fridays. So, more than enough time to enjoy a wonderful sauna experience this summer!
