Did you know that quite a lot of people even experience physical problems as a result of their screen use? Common complaints are dry eyes due to staring at the screen for too long, back and neck pains due to poor posture, a sore thumb due to too much scrolling, and stress due to overstimulation.
What’s more, several scientific studies have shown that exposure to electronic radiation can increase the risk of cancer and heart disease from as little as fifteen minutes a day.
Digital detox, how?
On average, we grab our mobile phones about 50 times a day. Throwing your electronic device out of the window is, of course, a little drastic. You probably still need it to make calls, keep your diary up to date etc. But just a few little tips can work wonders.
- Switch your device off completely at regular intervals. Or set the Do Not Disturb feature. This also allows you to prioritise calls from your partner or kids, for instance, so they can still get hold of you, but all other messages are blocked.
- Create digital-free zones in your home. For instance, ban devices from the bedroom and buy an old-fashioned alarm clock to wake you up in the morning. Another place a mobile phone really doesn’t belong is at the dinner table. No phones means you have more time to have a real conversation with your family.
- Switch off your notifications. That way, you are not constantly checking your emails, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. and you are not distracted all the time.
Did you know that electronic devices are banned at both Thermae Boetfort and Thermae Grimbergen? This helps us protect your privacy as well as create an environment where you can enjoy some well-deserved relaxation.
