Summer is the season to relax, unwind and recharge. And where better to do so than in the sauna? Yes, even on hot days, sauna bathing does wonders for body and mind. The heat promotes a sense of deep relaxation and you can enjoy a wonderful cooldown afterwards on one of our terraces or in a plunge pool.
Want to enjoy the perfect summer sauna day? We have a few house rules that help maintain a calm, peaceful wellness space in which you, your fellow guests and our staff are treated with respect. We have listed the main etiquette rules below.
Whether you are visiting us straight after work or after a sunny bike ride, always start your visit with a refreshing shower. Not only is this hygienic, it makes things a lot more pleasant for your fellow guests. Incidentally, did you know that having a shower opens up your pores so that your body is able to sweat more efficiently in the sauna? Also, you need to shower after every sauna session and every toilet visit.
Before going in the sauna, make sure to dry yourself properly. Dry skin sweats faster and helps maintain an even temperature in the sauna. What’s more, it also prevents sweat from dripping from your wet body onto the wood. Small effort, big impact!
The correct way to sit in the sauna is for your whole body to be on a towel. So, not just your bottom, your feet should be on the towel too. This keeps the wood clean and dry for the next sauna user. Tip: bring an extra, big towel in the summer; that way, you always have one to sit on and a clean one to dry yourself with.
In the sauna, peace and quiet is a must. So, try to whisper or talk in a soft voice. Want to have a good catchup with your friend? The bar is the perfect place for this, but in the sauna, please keep things serene. On hot days, when it tends to be busier, it’s even more important to respect the silence. Good to know: we have an actual ‘whisper’ sauna in the nude area.
You must wear spa slippers in the public baths, except in the sauna itself. Just leave them neatly by the door, outside the cabin. This helps keep your feet clean and protects them from the hot floors outside the sauna. What’s more, there is also less risk of slipping and falling over when wearing spa slippers!
At Thermae Boetfort, there is both a swimwear and a nude area. When you pay for your entry to our public baths, you automatically have access to both areas, provided you follow the respective dress codes, of course. In the swimwear area, you must wear swimwear and in the nude area, you enjoy your wellness naked.
So, what is the swimwear dress code? Tight-fitting swim briefs or trunks for men, a close-fitting swimsuit or bikini for women. Not allowed? Loose swim shorts, strings, swim dresses or burkinis.
When you sweat, you lose fluids, so make sure to drink enough water or herbal tea in between sessions. This is even more important on hot summer days. Make sure to take a break in the shade now and then or another cool spot outside.
A sauna visit is all about stress release, relaxation and pampering your body and mind. By following our house rules, you are helping us create a more pleasant wellness atmosphere for everyone. But don’t worry, nobody expects perfection. Just be mindful about how you conduct yourself and respect the communal wellness space.
It goes without saying that we don’t tolerate any form of inappropriate (sexual) behaviour or intimacies at our wellness resort. Our Aufguss masters walk around all day to make sure that our house rules are being followed. They will tell you when you are doing something wrong and you should, of course, also let them know when you notice someone breaking our house rules.
Our public baths are open every day this summer, including public holidays. You can visit us from 10:30 to 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday and even until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. So, plenty of opportunity to enjoy a wonderful sauna moment this summer!
