Hot weather has a big impact on your body. Your blood vessels dilate, you start to sweat, and your heart rate increases to help maintain your body temperature. It’s important to help your body cool down regularly, or even train it to cope better with changing temperatures. We’ll show you how!
Finding the right balance between hot and cold, that’s what a wellness visit at Thermae Boetfort is all about!
A cold shower
Of course, this classic way to cool down can’t be missed, a cold shower gives you instant refreshment. The cold water helps lower your body temperature quickly and closes your pores, helping to reduce sweating.
On our castle grounds, you’ll find several cold showers, so you can cool down wherever you like and at your own pace. Do you find it hard to stand under a cold shower? Try focusing on your breathing: breathe in gently for 3 counts, hold for 3 counts, and breathe out gently for 3 counts. Repeat this a few times – it’s a kind of breathing meditation that helps calm your mind and makes it easier to handle the cold.
A plunge pool
One of the classics in our thermal baths are the plunge pools. They may look small, but have a big impact on your circulation. After a hot sauna session or on a sultry summer day, a dip in the cold plunge pool is a treat for your body. It helps regulate your heart rate, close your pores, and rebalance your body temperature.
Two tips:
- If you’re using the cold plunge pool after the sauna, take a cold shower first and wait until you’ve stopped sweating – then step into the plunge pool. That’s how you’ll get the best effect!
- Want to refresh yourself on a hot day with an extra boost? Take a warm shower first – this will make the cold feel even more invigorating and help prevent muscle cramps.
Sauna in summer? Yes, please!
Some people have their doubts, but anyone who’s tried it will agree: going to the sauna is blissful, even in summer! It’s important, though, to cool down properly after each sauna session, take plenty of time to unwind between sessions, and maybe opt for a lower-temperature sauna or an infrared sauna in between.
The combination of hot and cold – enjoying the heat of the sauna and then cooling down properly – boosts your circulation, strengthens your immune system, and leaves you with that wonderfully fresh feeling, even on warm summer days!
Unwind in the garden
In our garden, you’ll find plenty of shady spots to relax. Take a stroll past the Ice Cellar sauna, or settle down on the wooden benches near the Castle sauna, where centuries-old trees provide natural shade.
A gentle summer breeze can bring extra coolness, especially when you’re enjoying the jacuzzi or pool. It’s the perfect way to unwind with views of the historic castle, making the most of our special setting!
And don’t forget to treat yourself to a refreshing drink – staying well hydrated is essential on a warm day. Just be mindful with alcohol: a little indulgence is fine, of course, but remember that alcohol has a dehydrating effect, so keep that in mind....
A refreshing massage or treatment
A purifying exfoliation, a relaxing massage or a facial with a hydrating gel mask: these are all treatments perfect for summer! They not only let you relax, but also do wonders for your skin.
So come along for a day of pure wellness on our beautiful estate this summer, you’re more than welcome!
