The right sunscreen - that's where it all starts! Ask your beautician or pharmacy to find the right product for your skin type. Do not use expired products: last year's sunscreen should no longer be used. You don't have to throw it away, it still works perfectly as a body lotion, for example, and the scent will instantly put you in a summery mood.

Apply generously and regularly. Avoid the sun around midday, move to the shade now and again, because you will tan there too! Wear sunglasses to avoid squinting at the sun. All that squeezing is not good for the sensitive skin around the eyes, which is more prone to fine lines and wrinkles anyway.

And be sure to include an after sun lotion on your shopping list, as moisturising your skin will help your tan last longer and your skin will also be soothed and recover more quickly from any sun damage.

Don't forget your hair, which also gets a lot of sun damage. Choose a protective product before you go out in the sun and use an extra nourishing mask afterwards to make sure dryness disappears.
