The discipline was invented in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates and originally served as a rehabilitation program to get wounded soldiers from World War I back on their feet Pilates used to be called "contrology" because you move in a slow and controlled manner with support from your breathing. It is an approachable sport with numerous benefits including:
